A Season Of Possibility

Choosing What Deserves Your Energy

I love September. It feels special, with renewed hope and energy in the air, warmth returning, the light staying with us a little longer, and gardens coming alive with a wonderful sense of life and possibility.

Spring feels like a beautiful wake-up call, especially after the cooler, darker months, and for me, it often feels like a fresh page. I find myself thinking about what I want to do, what feels possible, what matters to my heart, the people I love, and the life I want to live. I start imagining more exercise, time outdoors, socialising, new projects, different experiences, and all the things that inspire me.

I have a bounce in my step, inspiration in my heart, and my enthusiasm starts to gather speed. I find myself saying yes before really checking in, adding more to my schedule, and gradually spreading that beautiful, fresh energy across too many things.

This year, I am approaching spring a little differently, intentionally choosing to relish the freshness while gently making space for the new, and becoming more conscious about where I place my energy.

What deserves my energy?

This question feels powerful because energy is precious and finite. It naturally changes throughout the day, across the week and month, and through the different seasons and stages of our lives. It also moves in response to where we place our attention.

Energy flows where attention goes.

Whatever continually captures my attention also receives my energy, time, thoughts, and emotions. Sometimes this happens through a deliberate choice, and sometimes familiar patterns carry me along because they have become part of the way I operate.

Self-awareness is what allows me to recognise the difference and notice what has my attention and become curious about what is happening within me, what I am feeling, what I am responding to, what I value, and what may have changed.

The more I understand myself, the more I recognise where I want to place my energy, what has meaning for me, and what may simply be continuing through habit, expectation, or an old way of being.

For me, that means creating regular moments to check in with myself. Sometimes it is meditation or journalling, sometimes a walk, a quiet cuppa, time in nature, or simply enough stillness to hear what is underneath the activity. The practice itself matters less than creating the opportunity to listen.

That inner listening helps me notice whether my attention is focused or scattered, whether something is nourishing or depleting, and whether the choices I am making move me toward the life I want to create or away from it.

From this, awareness comes choice, and that can be spring's deeper invitation. As life begins to open around us, we can become curious about what feels worthy of our energy, what excites us, and what we consciously want to nourish.

What we focus on grows in importance and begins to shape our decisions, relationships, work, wellbeing, leadership, and ultimately the quality of our lives. Choosing where we place our energy is a conscious act of knowing ourselves, listening inwardly, and choosing with intention.

The way we show up, the way we lead ourselves, and the way we influence others are all shaped by where we place our attention and what we choose to energise. When we are clear about what matters, our energy becomes focused, our choices become intentional, and our influence becomes increasingly aligned with the life and impact we want to create.

As spring opens around us, check in and ask:
What deserves my energy today?
